The Economics and Business Studies course is designed to make you think about how wealth is created and used to improve the happiness and welfare of individuals and society as a whole. You will quickly learn that there are some big conflicts which need to be resolved between the rich (that includes you!) and the poorest members of our global society. You will discover new ways of thinking and will develop an intellectual framework to analyse these types of problems so that you can judge a step in the right direction from a step the other way. Wealth needs to be created before it can be shared, so you will spend time studying creative modern management methods and the psychology which makes them work. The course allows you to explore ways in which firms can best satisfy their customers and grow to become more powerful than their competitors. Many ideas will come as a surprise to you. Other surprises come from studying how apparently logical behaviour by individuals can result in disaster for society. You will learn how to investigate complex economic and business questions of huge importance to you as a future manager of people and as a future citizen of a fast changing, increasingly competitive world.
This course provides an ideal foundation for study at degree or international career level in business management, finance, marketing, human resource and many other specialist areas, including professional chrity work. In addition, students could proceed to an economics degree which could be linked with languages, politics, philosophy or history. Some top economics degrees require A level mathematics, although our course does not use difficult maths. Economcs graduates are the highest paid of any degree subject and find themselves in some of the most powerful and exciting jobs in the world.
