Facilities

Geography is taught predominantly in 3 rooms, each with sets of resources for each Key Stage. Two of these rooms have computers with direct access to the school network.

Courses

Geography is taught in 1-hour lessons over a fortnightly timetable. Year 7 to 9 have 3 lessons, Years 10 and 11 have 5 lessons, Year 12 have 9 lessons and Year 13 have 9 lessons.

Years 7 to 9 follow a Key Stage 3 National Curriculum-based course covering a range of topics from France, Brazil and the USA to Weather, Mapwork and Coasts. In addition a fieldtrip (with a subsequent Report) is included for most years. Use is made of ICT facilities on a regular basis, where appropriate - for example in the use of digital cameras to capture images on fieldtrips and for a half term unit on Investigating the Quality of Life in Year 9. Homework is set regularly and is integral to the work covered.

GCSE is offered in Year 10/11 where we follow Edexcel Specification B. In this 25% is based on coursework, 25% on Decision-Making Exercise and 50% on the final examination.

A/S and A2 are both from Edexcel Specification B, which incorporates an individual coursework project, researched essays and Decision-Making as well as Modular examinations on specific areas such as Rural and Urban Geography and Global Challenges.

At all levels students are encouraged to use ICT facilities and these are integrated into both our teaching programmes and to the development of the school Intranet and Shared Documents which allow students to access Geography resources and Help outside lessons. This facility is being developed so that students may also access the departmental Intranet website from the Internet at home.

We are pleased with the results our students regularly achieve.
