The school network is based upon an RM CC4 (Windows XP) system with multiple servers. The 2 main teaching rooms each contain 32 computers and there is a third room in the science block which has 32 computers. The sixth form computer room contains 18 computers and is generally used for for A-level teaching. The department is equipped with interactive whiteboards and a wide variety of apparatus necessary for teaching KS3.
There are many areas within the school and departments where students can access the network. All network machines have broadband Internet access.
I C T is taught for 1 hour per week in Years 7, 8 and 9 during which students gain confidence in the use of Microsoft Office XP and general computer techniques. The Adobe creative suite of programs is available on all computers and students develop their skills in creating websites and computer animation using Dreamweaver CS3 and Flash CS3.
Great importance is given to the concept of using I C T as an aid to learning throughout the school.
A GCSE in I C T is offered as on option in Year 10 and the remaining students are entered for the short course.
In the sixth form Applied ICT (Edexcel) is offered at AS and A2. In the A2 we do the option in Multimedia (unit10) using Flash and various graphics packages.
Further information is available from the school office.
