The Library is situated on the first floor close to the English teaching rooms. The stock consists of more than 12000 books, fiction and non-fiction. Most of the books are available for students and staff to borrow and there is also a reference section. In addition videos and an increasing selection of dvds are available for loan. The library also takes three daily newspapers and a selection of periodicals and magazines. There are five networked computers available for students.
All students receive an induction session at the beginning of Year 7 and have the opportunity to use the library for research in many subjects as well as for personal reading. Students can visit throughout the day, at break, lunch-time, and after school. During lessons the library is used for private study by sixth form students.
In 2006 fingerprint recognition was installed as part of the Alice Library Management system which means library cards are no longer required. This works by converting the biometric identification (thumb print) into a unique binary number. No image of the thumbprint is stored within the system. This has proved to be a more efficient way of issuing books.
