Physical Education

There are three full time members of the department and two part-time. We offer a full range of activities to students in Years 7-11. We run an options programme in Year 10 and a leisure programme in Year 11, so that all students' interests and strengths are catered for. As well as GCSE and AS/A2 P.E. we also offer four levels of sports leadership awards. Year 10 students can opt to take the Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Dance Leaders Award or the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership.  This can be followed up in Year 12 with the Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership and the Level 3 Higher Sports Leaders Award in Year 13. These are nationally recognised awards accredited by the British Sports Trust that can lead to job opportunities in the future and the chance to be a councillor in Camp America .

Each year the department holds a Sports Presentation Evening in order to recognise and celebrate the sporting achievements of the students.  Sports Colours, Achievement Awards and Leadership certificates are presented to the students and a variety of peformances are displayed.  A special guest from the world of sport is invited to speak and present the awards. This began in 1997 with Kelly Holmes being our first guest.

We have some outstanding individual and team performances to honour.  An ex-student Natalie Seymour is in the Senior England Hockey squad.  Cristal Turner has been selected for the Great Britain Olympic squad in Basketball, and we also have as number of talented students who play Korfball for England at different age groups.

Our U19 Basketball team regained their County title for the third successive year and were quarter finalists in the English Schools National Championships.  Our U16 Basketball team were also runners up in the Kent Cup Competition.

All of our hockey teams had great success throughout the year with the U18, U15 and U13 Squads winning the Weald District Tournaments.

District and County Cross Country Championships were well represented by MGGS and we were placed second overall in the Junior Competition.

Our teams in the Summer activities were just as successful. The U15 Tennis team won the regional competition and the Kent Schools Senior Championships and our U15 Cricket Team won the Kent Schools winter Cricket championships and the Kent Cup Championships. All year groups performed well in the District Rounders Tournaments with our Year 7 and 8 teams being placed runners up.

It was another very successful year in Athletics with our Senior teams winning the majority of their matches and our Junior teams performing well throughout the season.

All of our sports performers have worked very hard to develop their skills in training during lunch time and after school practices and they should be commended for their hard work and commitment.
Overall the school prides itself on its huge success in Sport on an individual and team basis.

All students in the school are split into six houses. They compete in the 'House Arts Cup' each year and rotate through drama, dance and music. Last year it was the turn of Dance. The House Leaders in Year 13 worked hard for half a term choreographing routines and organising dancers. The dances needed to reflect the theme which was 'west end msicals'. The standard was fantastically high and produced a great finish to the half term with the Britons House taking the honours.
