EDEXCEL

Introduction

In following this course you will have the opportunity to

study many different aspects of Physical Education . During the first year you will look at the social elements involved in the organisation of sport in the U.K. and Europe. You will be able to choose between showing your skills in two practical activities or completing a research project on a performance-related area of the course. You will learn how skills are acquired whilst improving your own performance and learn how to analyse the performances of others. You will research the provisions made for a sport of your choice in the local area and will complete work on Exercise and Training relating to performance.

During the second year you will study Global Trends in International Sport by completing case studies on the organisation of sport in America and New World Cultures. You will look further into factors affecting performance and will keep a personal exercise plan over the year. You can choose whether to show your advanced skills in one practical performance or in writing as an investigative study. You will also study the scientific principles of exercise and sports psychology.

The course is a mixture of directed and independent study. You will be asked to research topics and make short presentations to the class whilst keeping up to date with current affairs in sport.

There are growing numbers of sports related courses offered at universities including Sports Science, Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Anatomy, Sports Management, Sports Journalism or Teaching/ Coaching or you may use this qualification to gain employment in the growth industry of sport.
