Religious Studies - Philosophy of the Religious Studies Department

The RE Department takes a multi-faith approach and believes that the great religious traditions of the world are repositories of tremendous insight and wisdom into human existence and the human quest for the Divine.  Because of this, it is considered that all students have much to learn from religion that may be relevant to their own lives whether or not they have religious beliefs of their own.

The Religious Studies Department

Religious Studies is taught in three specialist rooms.  There are three full-time and one part-time members of the Religious Studies Department. Click on an image to find out more about us:

Staff

Mr E Tomkins BA MTh - Head of Department.
Mr Tomkins [usually known as Mr T] is the Head of Department.  He has a particular interest in the Philosophy of Religion, Eastern Religions, and Mysticism.  When he's not teaching Mr T likes spending as much time as possible with his two children; Beth [10 yrs] and Nathan [8 yrs].  He spends his summer holidays in Zimbabwe - a country that he loves.  The rest of the time he could be found at the gym working out or, more likely, slumped in a chair reading a good novel.

Mrs Ryan B.A.

Within Religious Studies my specialist areas are Islam and the Gospels. When I'm not teaching I enjoy spending time with my children, Joshua (7) and Jacob (4) and trying to keep fit. At the weekend I try to make sure my garden is weed free but you're more likely to find me taking part in a little retail therapy in Maidstone .

Mr R Watts B.A.

I have a strong interest in Philosophy of Religion, Buddhism and Spiritualism. When I'm not teaching I enjoy watching films, playing guitar and recording music amongst other things.
