“Maidstone Grammar School for Girls is an outstanding school”
OFSTED 2009
This is a lively, friendly, successful and forward thinking community which believes in the importance of achieving standards of excellence in all aspects of school life. The School was founded in 1888 and moved to the present attractive site in 1938. Our facilities are extensive and continue to improve.
Currently we have 1200 students on roll including a mixed sixth form of approximately 340. Our standard number for entry is 175 and Year 7 entrants come from a very wide range of primary schools. Students are assessed for entry into Year 7 through the Kent procedure for entry to secondary education. Approximately 25% of the cohort attend grammar schools.
We believe in the importance of academic enjoyment and success across the whole curriculum, and our students achieve outstanding examination results, but life is about much more than that. We give our students every opportunity to develop as independent, confident, compassionate and aware young adults. We have a very wide range of extra curricular activities and, we encourage community service and fund raising for charity. There are opportunities for field work and exchange visits; high quality productions and concerts are staged and we participate very successfully in schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Open University Young Applicants in Schools Scheme and the Community Sports Leadership Award. We are fortunate to have a very supportive Parent and Friends Association and our links with the local community and the business community are extensive.
“Students achieve outstandingly well throughout their time in the school, and as a
result overall standards in external texts and examinations are exceptionally high. Students enjoy excellent relationships with one another and with adults, and have an exceptionally mature and positive attitude to their learning. Students greatly enjoy all aspects of school life, and this is reflected in their exemplary behaviour and well above average levels of attendance.” OFSTED 2009
The School gained Specialist School Status in September 2005 for Science (with Mathematics as an integral part of this award). The school has also been selected by the General Teaching Council to be a support and verification centre for the Teacher Learning Academy, and this is indicative of the high value placed on professional development for staff.
If you would like to contribute to the continuing success of Maidstone Grammar School for Girls we will be very pleased to receive an application from you.
