Mayor-Making Ceremony - On 16th May, two of our Head Students, Emily and Dylan, had the incredible opportunity to attend the Mayor-Making ceremony at Maidstone Town Hall. Emily commented, “It was so inspiring to see the positive effect everyone there had on our community and their drive to make Maidstone the best town for all of us! It was such a special opportunity to be able to hear all of the other people's speeches and even get to go up there ourselves!”
🗞️ Passing the Baton… The Omnibus Enters a New Era! 🚀✨ The countdown is on! A brand-new cohort of Year 12 students is stepping up to take the reins of The Omnibus, our student newspaper.
At MGGS, we champion leadership. This publication is entirely student-led, giving our Sixth Formers the autonomy to manage a newsroom, drive creativity, and amplify student voice.
This year's incredible leadership team are: Olivia P and Tabitha B: Editors-Writers: The ‘boots on the ground’. They lead the journalistic charge - researching, interviewing, and writing the core articles.
"Hello, my name is Olivia in Year 12 and I study English, History and Philosophy, hoping to study Law in the future. I am honoured to be given one of the many leadership roles available in the Sixth Form and am excited to be one of The Omnibus Editors and to work with the other members of the team for the next year!"
“Hi, I'm Tabby and I'm a Year 12 student studying English Literature and Language, Geography, and Sociology and I am incredibly excited to be joining The Omnibus as an editor this year. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in writing or journalism, so I am extremely grateful for this leadership opportunity and can't wait to work with the team to create something engaging and inspiring for the school community!”
Bernice H - Creative Director: The ‘stylist’. Continuing her fantastic work from previous editions, Bernice masterminds the visual "vibe" of the front and back covers for the Autumn and Spring editions.
Taneka R and Maja F, Graphic Artists: The ‘architects’. They design the page layouts, mapping out the ‘grid’ so the reader's eye flows perfectly from headline to text.
Our new team has been working tirelessly, and their debut edition promises to be an inspiring read.
📅 Launches: 6th July 2026 📍 Where to read: Check your year group classrooms electronically, or head to The Mary Smith Library for a physical copy. ✍️ Get Involved: Want to write an article? Contact theomnibus@mggs.org
A big THANK YOU to all parents and carers who support our School Fund with monthly or annual contributions. Your generosity enables MGGS to provide a number of extras for our students. Over the May half term, this included the installation of impressive wall wraps on all three floors of the Helen Keen Building to help students to immerse themselves in the worlds of History, Music and Science!
The School Fund also paid for the installation of water fountains in the toilet areas of all 3 floors, which have been well received by the students. ... See MoreSee Less
We are delighted to announce that the MGGS Alumni Reunion 2026 will take place on Saturday, 4th July from 11.00am and we warmly invite all former students to join us.

Gabriella D-S Hockey Successes! My MGGS We are proud to share that Gabriella recently received two very special awards: Coach’s Player of the Season for the Under 18s and Junior Club Person of the Year.
In December, Gabriella took part in an indoor hockey regional competition. This was the first time she had ever played indoor hockey competitively, and her team went on to win the tournament and qualify for the national finals, which was a fantastic achievement.
Alongside continuing to play field hockey throughout the season in all weather conditions, Gabriella has also dedicated a huge amount of time to supporting the wider hockey community. She has coached both the Under 8s and Under 12 girls’ teams, completed her umpire training, and has already begun umpiring both children’s and adult hockey matches.
She has also captained the Under 18 girls’ team and regularly volunteered in the clubhouse, helping with cooking teas and supporting as a barista. Even during the holidays, Gabriella has continued to give her time to the club by acting as a lead coach at hockey camps.
These awards are a reflection not only of her sporting ability but also of her commitment, leadership, teamwork, and willingness to support others.
Lexi’s Fundraising for The Big Cat Sanctuary! Let’s get behind our budding new student… to donate, please click here 👉 www.justgiving.com/page/sophie-kahl-1
Alexis (Lexi) K, who will be joining us this September in Year 7, and is currently doing some fundraising for The Big Cat Sanctuary.
On 4th and 5th July, Lexi will be doing a 15-mile Tiger Trek to match the distance a tiger in the wild can travel in one night. Along the way, she will be collecting litter that she finds too.
Money raised from Lexi's Tiger Trek and Eco-Walk will help the Big Cat Sanctuary with their amazing work as well as help keep the local area clean and tidy and safer for our local wildlife. She has already raised £150 and had Cam Whitnall (Director of the Big Cat Sanctuary) share her story on his social media, which was a real pinch-me moment for Lexi. She is currently reading his book, Lion Heart, so she was a little starstruck!
Leila E in Year 7 has been working hard in her woolly enrichment sessions, learning the traditional craft of weaving. This wonderful sample was turned into a wall hanging, but the possibilities of weave are endless! Some students turned their weave into 'mug rugs', and others made doll house blankets!
If you are a student at MGGS, you can learn more about wool and yarn in our knit, crochet and stitch club, which will be run in term 6 by the DT department. Secure your space now!
A-Level Maths in Action: Go Ape and the Foundations of Engineering - "It was fun to see the applications of Maths in real life." My MGGS
This week, Year 12 mathematicians headed to Bedgebury National Pinetum to take part in the Go Ape course.
As students whizzed through the air, they were able to experience the forces we have been discussing in our Mechanics lessons. Students had a chance to understand why our modelling assumptions are important when we look at real life situations. In their upcoming lessons, they will now be challenged with some questions about their experiences which will challenge them to think about the complexity of the forces they were experiencing and how we could use modelling assumptions to make approximations surrounding their velocities and acceleration.
Here is what Zara and Flora thought about the trip: “We had a great time! We enjoyed the Tarzan swing and zip wires especially, and it was fun to see the applications of Maths in real life such as the varying tensions in the wires. It was really nice to spend time with our classmates outside of lessons. Plus, there were cute baby geese.”
As we bid farewell to a majority of our Year 9 cohort, as they commence their GCSE options next term, we get to celebrate the completion of their final pieces. They have learned the technicalities of darting, pintucking and pleating - as well as the artistic process of adding folds, shapes and colour. A highly successful end to KS3 textiles.
