The end of this term has seen Year 10 completing work experience. My thanks to Mrs Hayward for organising this. This was immediately preceded by Year 10 exams. It was pleasing to see how smoothly these went, with all credit to Year 10 students and the Exams team.

This term has also seen Year 13 mocks, as well as the annual music concert and dance show.  In addition, we have had STEAM week as well as World Book Day. The Medic Society, which was started this term by Mrs Shimmin and Mr Boorman, has been very successful with a variety of interesting guest speakers.

These all evidence the vibrant curriculum that students have the opportunity to engage with in school.

I know that this holiday will be one of focused revision for students in Year 11 and Year 13, though I would strongly encourage them to ensure they also benefit from some time of relaxation and rest over the holiday.

 I look forward to welcoming back students on Monday, 20th April.

This year’s House Cup winners for the most house points over the past year goes to…

1st Danes with 18, 713 House points

2nd Britons with 18, 347 House points

3rd Vikings with 18, 234 House points

This year, there have been over 107,202 house points awarded, up an amazing 32,842 from last year. Congratulations to each and every student for such a positive achievement!  Pictured are Sam W and Cade B receiving the trophy.

MGGS has a very well established House system going back many decades. Every student is a member of either Britons, Danes, Normans, Romans, Saxons or Vikings. The house system is an excellent way for our students to make friends and collaborate with other students outside their normal academic classes and year groups. During the course of the year there are a wide range of House competitions and our Sports Day is also a House based competition. All of the House competitions lead to the awarding of House points. House points are also awarded for a variety of other reasons, including making sustained progress in a subject, producing work of a very high standard or helping with a particular school event or activity. House points are collated and each year the House with the most points wins the House Cup.

On Sunday, 29th March, Miss Mulvihill and Mr Thomas took our competition teams to Canterbury to compete at the So You Want to Dance? competition.

Our Intermediate team placed 4th in their category, with the judges describing their routine as “a colourful performance with really clean movements and nice patterns!” Our Spectrum team were noted as having “a lot of technique on stage with lovely patterns and movements as a troupe” and placed 4th in their very competitive section.

G-Fix Contemporary won the Senior Classical troupes and the judges commented on their “great choreography choices, such an engaging piece and the energy built well!”

G-Fix Commercial won the Senior Commercial troupes and won Outstanding Group Performance, which earned them a golden ticket straight through to the Summer Final! The judges loved the piece, with feedback stating it was “an amazing routine, such a strong troupe who were so together, perfectly in sync and worked well as a collective”.

On Wednesday, 1st  April we held our annual dance showcase ‘Trending Now! The MGGS Dance Showcase 2026’ with 150 students participating in the event to a sold-out audience!

I am so impressed with each and every performer in the show – there was such a high standard of performance and choreography! A huge thank you goes to our student leaders who played an integral role in working with some of our larger clubs to produce the big group numbers; Elsie, Amelie, Charlotte, Orla, Scarlet, Flori, Meg, Jess, Narita, Elsie, Ava, Charlotte, Ridhi and Kaelyn- Marie!

A huge thank you to each and every dancer involved in the show and the AV team for their incredible lighting! A special thanks go to Year 10 students who returned from work experience to dance with us.
 

Dance is offered at MGGS as a subject option for both GCSE and A Level. Students can also join our dance troupes, which have achieved national recognition, demonstrating leadership in their steps and routines!

We did it! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have surpassed our fundraising goal! An amazing £3,500 has been raised so far, reaching our target! – with support from over 160 generous donors. 

On the night of the event, 40 courageous MGGS Sixth Form students gave up the comfort of their beds and slept outside in cardboard shelters to raise awareness of homelessness and support the work of Porchlight, a charity helping some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

The evening included an insightful workshop delivered by two of the Porchlight volunteers, a simple shared meal, and the construction of makeshift shelters – all designed to deepen our understanding of the real-life challenges faced by those without a home.

This event has not only raised vital funds but also sparked important conversations and lasting empathy. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved.

Year 11 GCSE Drama students completed their final scripted examinations this week, performing a range of pieces to a visiting AQA examiner. This marked the culmination of months of hard work, rehearsal, and dedication.

Students rose to the occasion with impressive commitment and focus, bringing their extracts to life with confidence and creativity. The programme featured a diverse mix of performances, from lively comedic scenes to more stylised and thought-provoking pieces. Each extract presented its own unique challenges, which students tackled with maturity and skill.

It was clear that a great deal of time and effort had gone into preparing these performances, and the students should be proud of what they achieved. Their professionalism and enthusiasm made for an engaging and memorable showcase of their talent.

It was another exciting PSHE Day, with a range of inspiring talks and activities taking place across the school – including four year groups benefiting from sessions delivered by the Kenward Trust.

Year 7 focused on the environment and global citizenship, taking part in an engaging UN-style project that encouraged them to think about their role in the wider world.

Year 8 spent time looking at how to take care of themselves, alongside an inspirational talk from Aim a Little Higher that really motivated students to think positively about their futures.

Year 9 explored relationships and body image, as well as enjoying an energetic volleyball session as part of their wellbeing activities.

Year 11 had a more reflective day, with study sessions and wellbeing time to help them feel focused and supported as they continue their studies.

Year 12 balanced wellbeing and study skills, as well as taking part in a powerful and informative talk from the Boobettes on cancer awareness.

A fantastic day overall, full of learning, inspiration, and opportunities for students to reflect and grow.

A huge thank you to the dedicated members of the Gardening Club for a phenomenally successful term! We’ve been busy transforming our outdoor space, starting with a fantastic upcycling project: crafting vertical planters by creatively reusing old pallets. This term, we completed the final step, building fabric boxes for our new crops, and planting a luscious selection of strawberry plants! Keep your fingers crossed for some seriously great pickings!

The buzz hasn’t stopped in the greenhouse either. Our first hardy set of runner beans have proudly moved outside, already climbing up their carefully constructed tripod supports.1

What’s next? Get ready for a taste of the garden next term! We’re excited to harvest our rhubarb to bake a delicious rhubarb crumble. Plus, we’ll be planting out our delicate tomato and pepper plants, and eagerly watching to see if we can gather our very first harvest from the cherry tree!1

We are always looking for new green-thumbed members to help us get our garden into full swing for summer. If you’re ready to dig in and join the fun, we meet every Monday in C108 from 3.45pm to 4.30pm.
