A Phone-Free School
Thanks to staff, students and parents for their help in making MGGS more effectively phone free this term. It is great that students are getting into the routine of locking away phones for the entire day, and nice to see some really creative Yondr pouch accessorisation – one year seven class even collaborated in some beautiful festive decorations! Don’t forget to lock them when they go away at the end of the day – this helps prevent avoidable damage to the locking mechanism.
It’s increasingly clear that there are gains in relation to well-being, attention and learning, and behaviour from being phone-free for extended periods. We are pleased to be able to help with this, by helping make the school a place where we can be free of the persistent distraction which smartphones and their stream of notifications can become for many of us.
Next term we’ll be looking to our most senior students (in years 12 and 13) who will also be phone free – keeping them away in lockers or bags – when in public spaces around the school.
