Architecture in Fashion at MGGS

Throughout history, clothing and buildings have echoed each other in form and appearance. In recent years the connections between the two concepts have become more intriguing as buildings become more fluid and garments more architectonic.

Architects are adopting strategies more commonly used in dressmaking, such as printing; pleating; folding; and weaving, while fashion designers are looking to architecture for ways to build or engineer garments which present new ideas about volume and structure. Year 8 textiles students have been exploring the links between fashion and architecture through mark making activities in preparation for the design and make of a pair of architecture inspired shorts.
