Arts Award @MGGS

A group of Year 7 and 8 students have been very busy this year working towards their Bronze Arts Award with the Drama Department. This is the first year that we have offered the Arts Award to our students. The Arts Award is a qualification “that supports anyone aged up to 25 to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world through taking challenges in an art form – from fashion to digital art, pottery to poetry.”

As part of their Bronze Award students have had to complete four activities:

  • Part A: develop their knowledge and skills through actively participating in any art form
  • Part B: experience at least one arts event/experience as an audience member and put together a review of that event/experience
  • Part C: research the career and work of an artist or craftsperson that inspires them
  • Part D: pass an arts skill on to others

It’s been lovely reading and watching students’ interest in different arts forms grow. We have been particularly impressed with the Part D workshops that have been taking place in school over the last few weeks. These workshops have been student led and have ranged from dance, photography to stage combat! Moderation will take place in the new academic year. Well done to everyone who has taken part!
