Design Technology at MGGS: Paper Making

Whilst most paper making takes place on a large industrial scale, handmade paper remains a specialist craft. It is a process that requires an attention to detail blended with a creative eye. DT Product Design students in Year 12 have been working on making their own recycled paper to broaden their understanding of materials and their applications. As such, they have developed their knowledge of paper and board properties; printing processes; the economies of scale; and quality control measures. Students worked together to produce a diluted suspension of fibres held in a deckle which were then pressed and dried leaving deckled edging, a tell tale sign of handmade paper.
