Design Technology @MGGS
Using a wood-turning lathe is a process that requires a certain level of skill and accuracy and yet is also incredibly therapeutic! This week, our A Level Product Design students had a go at turning a length of natural softwood to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Exploring the use of swells, hollows, coves and flats, students were able to create a range of profiles that could be turned into a selection of products from chess pieces, to balusters, to fruit bowls and salt/pepper shakers. Here are some pictures of their initial work whilst getting to grips with the tools and techniques.
