External speaker ‘female officer talks about her expedition rowing across the Atlantic’ – Years 8 and 9

This week students in Year 8 and 9 at MGGS were really excited to be visited by the British Army’s Sergeant Laura Barrigan, part of the Force Atlantic team who recently conquered the “World’s toughest row”. Laura and her crew rowed 3,000 miles in 40 days, 23 hours and 57 seconds in record time to become World Record holders for the fastest mixed fours crew to row across the Atlantic Ocean!

During the gruelling challenge, the team faced the ultimate test of physical and mental endurance.  Rowing for 12-hours a day in two-hour shifts, day and night, the team was faced with an onslaught of waves, sleep deprivation and salt sores.

Laura spoke to our students about developing their own sense of passion, determination and focus and her inspiring story will hopefully have given some of our MGGS students the inspiration to do some amazing things of their own.
