Flying High! A Level Drama & Theatre Workshop with The Paper Birds

On Thursday September 12th our Year 12 and 13 A Level Drama students had the opportunity to work with the excellent The Paper Birds theatre company.  The company aims to be “…quiet rebels, amplifying the voices of everyday people. We inspire change through the theatre we create…The words of the people we meet form the backbone of our shows, giving voice to the voiceless, painting powerful and very human alternative social commentaries.”

Camila Robinson led an all-day intensive workshop that focused on the company’s five key ingredients: verbatim, movement, character and narrative, exposing the method and motif. Our students experimented with different ways in which to explore the topic of fast fashion through these ingredients.

As part of the AQA A level course students devise their own performance from scratch, they must also take influence from a theatre practitioner. As year 13 have chosen to work in the style of The Paper Birds the workshop was invaluable. It was great to see our students being creative, thoughtful and making their own theatre. Well done to everyone who took part!
