International Women’s Day @MGGS

International Womens DayThis week, to celebrate International Women’s Day, we invited our alumni to come back and speak to our students, in person or virtually, about their experiences in the workplace. The range has simply been incredible: from one student who left in 1969 to one who completed her A Levels in 2018, these incredible women shared their experiences working in industries as varied as the Police, the BBC, large marketing companies, Newcastle United through to nursing and an investigator for NATO.

I do not doubt that our students have been inspired by all these women who openly discussed pathways into the workplace (from university degree, degree apprenticeship through to straight into work), breaking the ‘glass ceiling’ and gender imbalance, the benefits of an inclusive workplace, mental health, what ‘being successful’ means for them and their fond memories of MGGS.

In their words “once MGGS, always MGGS”, “keep being ambitious and do not doubt yourself”.

I want to personally thank Mrs Brewer – Development Trust & Alumni Relations Officer – as well as Mrs Culbreth – Aspirations & Careers Leader – for their support in putting these events together and for continuing to engage our students to be ambitious for themselves.

Mrs N Lawrence – Assistant Headteacher KS3 – Student Voice & EDI Lead
