Magical Mischief at the Theatre
On Thursday, 12th June, the Drama department and six members of the A Level Drama class travelled up to London to watch ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Bridge Theatre. This version of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays had a contemporary festival feel to it. Everything that happens in the woods is a dream that Hippolyta makes Theseus have in order to teach him a lesson. Oberon and Titania’s lines were swapped for most of the show, which was a really clever change, it put the power firmly in Titania’s capable hands (or wings!). Having the fairies on silks spinning above the stage and audience was awe-inspiring and we truly felt part of the show. The Mechanical’s were hilarious as they tried to rehearse for Theseus’ wedding celebration and ‘the lovers’ found themselves clambering over vine-covered beds, whilst the spikey Puck watched from above with glee.
“Nothing short of fantastic. The use of such dynamic staging, the aerial dancing with silks, the modernisation of the script; it was such a phenomenal production.“ Emelia S, Year 12
“The show was so much fun! It was very immersive and very well organised. Everything from the acting and the aerial silks to the costume and set design was amazing!” Jemima F, Year 1212
It was lovely spending the afternoon at the theatre watching such a superb production with our students. It’s definitely one that we won’t forget!
