MGGS Nepal Expedition 2025: A Journey of Culture, Compassion & Conquest!
12th February: travel from MGGS to Kathmandu
After months of anticipation, all 43 students and 6 teachers finally travelled to Nepal. After two planes with many films watched, music listened to and some sleeping, we arrived in sunny, yet dusty Kathmandu. To say that the students were in for a culture shock is an understatement: here we were, exhausted, in the middle of a very bustling city.
14th February: Pokhara
We arrived in Pokhara after a very long 10 hour coach journey on rickety roads from Kathmandu. All safe but exhausted! Here is a picture after we were welcomed by the trust:

15th to 17th February: Tangting
Whilst Team 1 were in Ghachok, Team 2 arrived in Tangting and were warmly welcomed by the school children with hundreds of flower necklaces, everyone felt so special! Tangting is always the highlight of the expedition as all the students can see within the village school where all the RAG money is being invested. Not only have we helped build a computer suite, developed a sustainable garden and painted classrooms in the past few visits, this time we also carpeted the classroom floors and whilst this wasn’t the way we expected carpeting to be done, we all had great fun laying the lino. Walking up the mountain the next day was a challenge for the students but worth it when we all got to the top feeling elated and so proud of each other.
18th and 19th February: Ghachok
Ghachok is the home village of the famous Major Ram who coordinates accommodation and activities with True Adventure. At 78, he still talked very fondly of his time as a major in the Ghurka army and walked up the mountain with us (most of it anyway…). If the Tangting trek was a challenge, well this one was a mammoth walk of 5 hours. Luckily team 2 managed to have good weather, which couldn’t be said of poor team 1 who ended up quite wet.
20th February: back to Pokhara for some R and R and well-deserved shopping therapy as well as comfort food that was not necessarily Dahl Bat, our daily meals so far!
21st and 22nd February: back to Kathmandu and return home.
Everyone had forgotten the long and bumpy journey at the beginning, but it was time to refresh our memory driving back to Kathmandu! After 8 hours on the coach, everyone was relieved to get back to the capital for one last chance of shopping and cultural visits. The Monkey Temple, amongst others was a big favourite!
So, what next? Pakrash, the headteacher of the Tangting school shared his vision of building a new canteen. So, folks, let’s get busy raising funds to help them achieve this dream. Hopefully, in 2 years’ time, the new Nepal expedition teams will be able to see it!
Thank you to Mrs Acheson, Miss Raja, Mrs Ryan, Miss Brown and Miss Sindall for accompanying the students. Thank you to all the adventurers who were such great ambassadors for our school. I can’t wait to start organising the next expedition.
