MGGS STEAM Week in Pictures
During STEAM week 2023 at MGGS students were involved in a number of exciting activities within Science. Mrs Culbreth arranged for four Engineers at different stages of their careers to come and talk to a packed laboratory about Engineering as a career. This gave students a real insight into the range of careers paths open to them. and we are very grateful to the engineers for giving up their time.
60 students from years 11 to 13 attended the Operating Theatre Live event in the gym where pupils worked with a real medical anatomist to practise surgical skills and investigate all of the main anatomical structures to see, touch and dissect real organ specimens.
In preparation for their GCSE Physics Space module, Year 11 students attended a mobile planetarium in the main hall and were given a fascinating tour of the universe, learning about the Solar System constellations and the life cycles of stars.
In lessons, Year 7 students learned about astrobiology (the link between Biology and space science); Year 8 students built and fired rockets; and Year 9 students designed and built rubber band powered cars to develop their problem solving skills. the most successful car managing to travel close to 2m
