Three exceptional young martial artists, Rose in Year 8 at MGGS along with Connor and Ethan from the Shukokai Karate Academy, (SKA England) based in and around Maidstone, have clinched medals at the 2025 English Karate Federation National Championships, held at the National Sports Centre in Sheffield.
The annual event drew hundreds of the country’s top karate competitors, but it was Rose and Connor who stole the spotlight with outstanding performances in their respective divisions.
Rose claimed gold in the girls 12–13 yrs kumite division, impressing the judges with her poise, technical precision, and focused execution. In her final she excited the audience with a last minute punch to clinch the title.
Their coach, Sensei Katie Simpson, 5th Dan, expressed immense pride in their achievements: “These two students have worked hard over years, starting karate from five years old-and now they’re national champions. Their dedication, discipline, and love for the sport have truly paid off.”
Following their national titles, Rose is now a strong candidate for selection to the England squad in upcoming international events, marking an exciting new chapter in their karate journeys. Her victory is not only personal triumph but also a testament to the strength of grassroots martial arts in the UK-proving that with commitment and perseverance, greatness is within reach.
