Second Star to the Right: Sixth Form Bring Peter Pan to Life!
Last Thursday, the sixth form’s production of Peter Pan proved that Neverland is very much alive – and thriving – thanks to the talent, teamwork and imagination of the students who came together in Enrichment lessons to put on the production.
On stage, the cast threw themselves into the spirit of panto with confidence and charm. The performances were energetic, comic and full of heart, involving the audience in traditional call-and-response moments that had the Year 5 Brunswick Primary School pupils shouting along with glee. The actors handled classic characters with ease while giving them a fresh, modern twist – none more popular than the inclusion of the viral “6 7” trend, which sent shrieks of laughter through the hall. Songs inspired by the much-loved Wicked soundtrack were met with delighted recognition, while the opportunities to sing along to K-Pop Demon Hunters had pupils bouncing in their seats. The infectious energy in the room was impossible to miss – smiles, laughter and enthusiastic applause filled the space from start to finish.
Behind the scenes, the directors deserve huge credit for shaping such an enjoyable, fast-paced show. Scene changes were slick, the comedy was well judged for a young audience, and the balance between traditional pantomime and contemporary pop culture was spot on. The result was a production that felt familiar and exciting all at once.
The costume and set team transformed the stage into a vibrant Neverland. From bold colours and instantly recognisable character details, the costumes helped bring the story to life and supported the performers brilliantly. Lighting and sound technicians were the unsung heroes of the adventure. Dynamic lighting shifts guided the audience from the Darling house in London to pirate ships and mermaid coves, while sound cues and musical backing added pace, atmosphere and polish. The technical team’s precision ensured that every joke landed and every magical moment sparkled.
This Peter Pan was a shining example of what sixth form students can achieve when actors, creatives and technicians work together. Judging by the reaction of the young audience, it was a journey to Neverland they won’t forget anytime soon! The whole cast and crew should be immensely proud of themselves.
