Sixth Form Students Investigate Geology First-Hand at Folkestone Warren

A small group of our Year 12 and 13 geography students recently took part in a fascinating field trip to Folkestone Warren, an area renowned for its complex and dynamic geology.

Led by expert geologist Dr Simon Drake, the trip offered students a unique opportunity to explore the area’s dramatic landforms and geological features first-hand. From evidence of historical landslides to the striking rock formations and coastal processes at work, the visit brought to life many of the key concepts and case studies studied as part of the A Level geography course.

As well as deepening their understanding of the physical geography of the region, students were able to ask questions, observe real-world examples of the processes they’ve been learning about, and gain insights from an expert in the field—helping to reinforce and extend their classroom learning.

It was an engaging and enriching experience that gave students a greater appreciation for the complexity of the UK’s physical landscapes and the importance of fieldwork in geographical study.
