Sleeping Out, Making a Difference: MGGS Raises £3,665 for Porchlight!

Following the successful SleepOut event on Friday, 28th March, Maidstone Grammar School for Girls (MGGS) welcomed Mim Oliver from Porchlight to a special assembly to celebrate the remarkable fundraising achievement this week.  The event, which saw 50 Sixth Form students experience a night outdoors to raise awareness of homelessness, surpassed its initial £2,500 target, amassing a total of £3,665.

During the assembly, Mim expressed heartfelt gratitude to the students and staff for their dedication and support. A commemorative photo captured the moment Mim received the cheque from Deborah, accompanied by several Year 12 students who participated in the SleepOut. This gathering not only acknowledged the funds raised but also reinforced the school’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

The SleepOut initiative, part of MGGS’s ongoing efforts to support charitable causes, provided students with a profound insight into the challenges faced by the homeless community. Through building cardboard shelters and enduring the night outside, participants gained a deeper empathy and understanding of the hardships of homelessness.
