Maidstone Grammar School for Girls held its annual Speech Day on Friday, 6th January and welcomed former Year 13 students back to MGGS to celebrate their A level successes.  They were joined on this special occasion by parents, carers and other distinguished guests.  This year was especially nice as it is the first year since 2018 when parents/carers have also been included.  We hope they enjoyed seeing their daughters and sons receiving their certificates.

Speech Day 2023 Year 13 Leavers Return to MGGSWe were very honoured to welcome Mary Smith.  Mrs Smith was Headteacher here from 2006 to 2014.  As you know the school’s Library is named after Mrs Smith and reflects her love of reading and her passion for English. It is unusual for a previous Headteacher to remain in contact with their school. However, I am pleased that she has continued to do so, through her book ‘ A School Girl’s War’ and the many talks she continues to give about this school in the Second World War. Recently the 10,000th copy of this book was sold, a remarkable achievement.

Our thanks go to Councillor Councillor Derek Mortimer, the Mayor of Maidstone along with Lindsay Horne, Chair of the Governing Body, who also honoured us with their presence.

Miss Stanley, Headteacher commented, “I was very pleased to see last year’s Year 13 students back at MGGS to collect their certificates and prizes.  They worked incredibly hard to achieve their academic success in last summer’s examinations and we are very proud of all of them.  We now look forward to hearing how their careers develop in the future, as they keep in touch with MGGS through our Alumni.”
