On Friday 12th July, 58 Year 7 and 8 pupils took part in a stage combat workshop led by Mark Ruddick from Squire Stage Combat. Mark performs and directs stage combat sequences for professional work in theatre, television and film, performs as a stuntman, and works in schools internationally. He is currently working at Glyndebourne and filming for a Netflix series, with the films Warhorse, Skyfall and Wonder Woman on his CV already; we were very lucky to have Mark come in to teach the girls!

In the workshop, pupils were led through a number of different techniques and moves, culminating in a dynamic and realistic sequence. The primary focus was on safety and discipline, helping the girls improve their technique, whilst also creating a convincing combat through their use of characterisation.

The pupils gave great energy and commitment to their work and left with a new and exciting range of skills.
