Students Lead the Charge for a Plastic-Free Future!
Over the past year, a committed group of students has worked passionately to earn the Plastic Free Schools accreditation. Their goal has been to identify areas of plastic waste within our school and implement meaningful changes to reduce it.
One of their key successes has been achieving a significant reduction in plastic waste from the school canteen. This positive change not only improves the school environment but also sets an example for sustainable practices that benefit the entire community.
As part of their efforts, the team engaged with key decision-makers, including local MP Helen Whately (Faversham and Mid Kent), to discuss plastic pollution and explore solutions on a national scale.
The students also played a vital role in organising the Pupil Power Assembly, an international event where Year 7s learned about the global challenges of plastic pollution. Featuring inspiring contributions from well-known activists and celebrities like Gillian Burke and Paul Powlesland, the event encouraged students to consider how we can preserve and protect our water systems for the future.
Through lobbying, teamwork, and education, these students have proven that small actions can lead to big changes. Their hard work has not only reduced plastic waste but also created a cleaner, greener school environment—setting a powerful example for a more sustainable future.
