Summer Writing Challenge!
Well done to all of the creative writers who decided to take part in our prompt over the summer! The challenge for everyone was to write a poem that encaptures a happy summer memory.
Every entry has been written beautifully, and shows a range of individual feelings towards what makes summer amazing! The winner we have chosen showed impressive imagery and detailed language so well done to Ridhi S!!
The runners-up are Amelia E and Eliza G!
Everyone did such a great job! Please take a moment to read the poem below. From the English Prefects !!
“The ocean’s call, a haunting melody,
Drew us toward its boundless majesty.
Barefoot on the sand, warm and bright,
We danced in rhythm with the sun’s golden light.
Shells and treasures clutched in eager hands,
We traced our dreams on golden sands.
Laughter mingled with the whispering breeze,
A symphony of childhood’s purest ease.
The sun, a painter in the vast blue sky,
Brushed strokes of gold as time slipped by.
We chased the waves, their cool, tender caress,
A timeless game of boundless, joyous excess.
Ice cream cones, a sweet, melting delight,
Dripped in the midday sun’s fierce light.
With sticky fingers, we explored the shore,
Each moment brimming with wonders galore.
Seagulls cried their jubilant, wheeling song,
As we splashed and played, wild and strong.
Building castles, grand and tall,
Our imaginations soared, enthralled.
As twilight cast its gentle, silken hue,
The sea shimmered in shades of pink and blue.
We gathered ‘round the fire’s warm, flickering glow,
Sharing tales of days long ago.
The scent of salt and summer’s lush bloom,
Lingering in the evening’s soft plume.
In those moments, wild and free,
We were everything we’d dream to be.
Now years have passed, but memories stay,
Of sunlit laughter and ocean spray.
A beachside tale, forever spun,
A cherished whisper, beneath the setting sun.”
Thank you, Freya F, Year 13 Prefect
