VE Day 80th Celebrations and BBC Coverage!
As the country celebrates 80 years since Victory in Europe at the end of World War II, MGGS has been marking the occasion in its own unique way.
On Thursday, BBC News South East ran a story about 2 of our Old Girls who took shelter in our air raid tunnels, known then as trenches, during the war.

On Friday, Year 9 students, Evie, Freya, Eva, Edith, Amelie, Gold and Hajira joined Mrs Brewer, Mr Burnage and Mary Smith, the author of A Schoolgirl’s War, at Maidstone Town Hall as part of Maidstone Borough Council’s VE Day celebrations. There is still a chance to go along and listen to Mary speak about wartime at MGGS at 11am and 1pm on Saturday. The talks are free and there is no need to book.

The History department is also giving our Year 7 students the opportunity to visit the tunnels over the remainder of this term. Having had an assembly about them at the end of last year, they are very excited to be able to sit where underground lessons were taught over 80 years ago.
