Year 12 Update – Maidstone Grammar School for Girls

Year_12_UpdateYear 12 have had a busy but excellent term as they conclude the first year of their Key Stage 5 study.  Our new Student Leadership team have settled in brilliantly to their roles, attending training and managing a whole host of events that we have been able to enjoy together in school this term.  They have worked tirelessly, with the support of the wider Sixth Form community, to facilitate and assist at many of the experiences we have been able to reintroduce after two more unusual summers.  In addition, the whole of Year 12 has been looking at Post 18 options and beginning to explore pathways and identify their personal goals and ambitions for after school.  Senior staff enjoyed meeting 1:1 with all students in the early weeks of this term and hearing about the many different pathways our students are considering.  All students attended the UCAS Discovery exhibition in June, and many have since organised to visit university open days.  Aspire, the early entry applicant group that supports students applying to Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or Dentistry, has launched and they enjoyed a seminar with a Schools Liaison Officer from Queens’ College, Cambridge this week.  In addition, a significant number of students are considering higher/degree level apprenticeships and we have welcomed a recent leaver into school to discuss this.  We reach the summer break tired but excited for the future; this cohort of young people have so much promise and we are excited to see what they will achieve.  Thank you Year 12 for an excellent year, have a good summer (remember to revise for those September examinations, but make some space to rest also) and we look forward to welcoming you back as Year 13 after the break.  Mrs C Ransom, Head of KS5
