Year 9 Food & Nutrition World Record Attempt with Jamie Oliver!
Whilst the country endured a heatwave with temperatures tipping over 330C in Maidstone, our brave Year 9 food and nutrition students took part in a Guinness World Record attempt! Initiated by renowned chef Jamie Oliver, who has a long standing passion for improving children and young people’s engagement with healthy food, the aim was to get as many groups of people cooking across the country all at the same time.
Participants across the country had one dedicated hour to follow a given recipe to be eligible to break the record. At 11am students started a nationwide Zoom call and were greeted by Jamie himself as he introduced the world record attempt.
Students followed the instructions of the chef on screen to make and shape pasta from scratch, accompanied by a homemade tomato sauce. Students did incredibly well coping with heat and were duly provided with ice and ice creams to cool down afterwards.
A big thank you to Miss Cresswell who acted as the official Guinness World Record witness, and Miss Sharkey and Mrs Spreckley who were the official event stewards. We have submitted our evidence from MGGS and await to hear if we’ve broken the record – fingers crossed!!
