Year 9 Football Finals

On Tuesday 2nd May, nine talented Year 9 footballers from MGGS made the short trip to the Gallagher Stadium to compete in the Maidstone Schools  finals. It followed a 7- aside format where matches lasted 20 minutes each. First up were Invicta. It was a tight, cagey affair and despite the individual talent on display, our lack of preparation together meant we could not convert our domination into goals and the match ended 0-0. Next up were a very capable New Line team.  Once again it was a tight match and neither team could break through the strong defences, so the second match was also 0-0.  Finally we took on St. Augustine’s Academy.  Finally, the goal drought was broken in the first minute and the girls played very well together. The result was a 2-1 victory.  Despite not losing a match the results meant that we tied for first place on points, but came third on goal difference.

It was a tough result to accept, but we are taught to win with grace and lose with dignity and on this occasion it was our turn to show some dignity. Well played girls.
