Year 9 Trip to Normandy

On 19th March, 57 Year 9 students braved the cold and the early hours of the morning to embark on a residential trip to Normandy! After a few hours on the coach, they had the opportunity to learn about the 1066 Battle of Hastings while admiring the Bayeux tapestry. The next morning, everyone was excited to meet their French penpals and spend some time in their school and even sing a couple of songs together. In the afternoon, we visited the WW2 D-day landing beaches and ended the day by doing some sand yachting. The next day, the students spent the day exploring Mont St Michel (one of the UNESCO Heritage Sites) before watching a film at a 360 degree cinema and finally doing some shopping in a supermarket. Everyone was exhausted and slept on the coach on the way back to England but their eyes were full of unforgettable memories!

“My trip to Normandy was a brilliant experience as my first time out of the country.  Exploring Mont Saint Michel was a highlight, as was admiring the Bayeux Tapestry. The Juno Beach Centre allowed me to understand more about the history of D-day and the thrill of sand yachting on the beach added a twist to our trip. Each moment was fun, and I really loved every part of this remarkable trip and I could see how much the teachers enjoyed it too but I have to say my favourite parts of this trip were visiting the French school as it allowed me to connect with other students and make many new friends, watching the sunset on the beach, and learning more about where Mr Belver grew up, I think we all could tell how much he enjoyed seeing his family again. I have to thank all of the staff that helped make this trip so unforgettable, as it created memories that I will remember forever. Thank you all so much.”  Katie H-B
