House Arts “The Jewel in the Crown @MGGS” 2026 … and the overall winners are …? 🤍 Romans 🤍
Our Judge, Keelan Carew, commented, “To say that I saw the very best of MGGS would be an understatement! I was utterly delighted to be a part of this spectacular tradition - and I’m thrilled to see such enthusiastic dedication across the school!”

House Arts is the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of MGGS events, a tradition which dates back to at least the 1930’s. It is a whole school event, which took place today. The day is a competition between the 6 school houses and celebrates the performing arts. Our sixth form House Leaders are responsible for creating and leading a 12-minute performance which the rest of the school watched.
The winner is decided by our guest judge. Keelan is a pianist and broadcaster, and works in musical education with young people.
Students have today showcased the incredible community spirit that exists at MGGS and the performances crafted by our Year 13 House Leaders were a celebration of talent, teamwork, and creativity within our student body. But House Arts isn't just about winning; it's about unity and creating lifelong memories.
Congratulations to all Houses; MGGS is very proud! ...

If you came to open morning or afternoon this week you would have heard our Year 7 students speaking about their start at MGGS. Well done to all our Year 7 students, Harriet, Isla Ivy, Mable, Nancy, Nicole and Rayna. Here’s what Harriet had to say:
Good morning, I'm Harriet, a current student here at MGGS. My ambition was to attend MGGS for many years, as my older sister was at this school and loved her time here, which inspired me to join as well!
When I passed my 11 plus exam and secured a place at this wonderful school, I felt very proud of my achievements and grateful for being accepted here.
On the transition day, I was slightly nervous, asking myself questions like: Will I be in a form with my friends? Will I get a good form tutor? Will I make friends with other people?
And the answer to all those questions was a YES! Everyone included me, supported me and encouraged me, and I’m sure that if you or your child gets accepted into MGGS, they would love it as much as I do.
We have done lots of fun stuff in Year 7 so far, like going to Blackland Farm and completing teamwork, building challenges whilst making lots of new friends. Another new experience for me is House Arts. House Arts is a long-lasting tradition here at Mggs where the students come together as a community and put on performances for the houses. The whole school takes part in it, and it is run by the Sixth Form House leaders. I'm excited to take part in the performance at the end of this week.

Last week I found out that I was elected to be one of our School Representatives, and I am looking forward to this role, working with older students to make positive change to the school.

It is recommended children familiarise themselves with the multiple-choice layout of the test, content and examples of some types of questions they will face. To give all children the opportunity to experience sample questions across a range of question types in advance of the test, they provide 10 hours of free familiarisation materials. These are particularly useful for verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning tests as children may not have encountered these types of questions before. The exact timings for, and number of questions in, your local 11+ test may differ from those in their familiarisation and practice materials.
