… And the Award Goes to…! My MGGS

On Wednesday, 29th April, our #Year13 #MediaStudies students walked the red carpet to celebrate the completion and submission of their NEA Cross-Media Productions.

From stunning film marketing campaigns to cinematic narrative music videos, the level of professional talent on display was incredibly impressive. We handed out 10 awards recognising everything from Technical Artistry to the prestigious Director and Designer of the Year.

We were lucky to be joined by local cinematographer #SamCreamer, whose speech about his career gave our students an inspiring glimpse into the industry. We were also treated to two brilliant performances by our resident Year 12 band, Lace and Leather.

Congratulations to our winners:
Cinematic Craft Award - Jess H
Script-to-Screen Award - Abby T
Visual Representation Award - Tilly E

Celebrating Diversity: #multiculturalday 2026 at My MGGS

For the fifth year running, on 29th April, MGGS students and staff celebrated the rich diversity of our school community. It was wonderful watching students walking into school on this sunny day, pose for photographs to showcase their beautiful and colourful outfits and praise each other. We held a bake sale at breaktime and during Period 3, the students engaged in a fascinating discussion about identity and culture. At lunchtime, the Main Hall was packed for the famous Dance & Fashion show organised and hosted by our amazing Diversity Ambassadors; Chimamanda, Melody, Sasha, Edith and Nicole.

The performances were filled with colour, expression, pride and great moves. The audience warmly supported all the performances, especially the Y11 and Y13 students. Sadly, our oldest students will be moving on from MGGS in the summer.

The proceeds for the day (we raised over £450) will be donated to the student-elected Diversity House charity, a local organisation based in Sittingbourne, which focuses on the health and well-being of women and girls to achieve their goals.

I am immensely proud of all the students who took part in all the activities throughout the day and thank all the staff for their support, perfectly echoing the school motto ‘not for oneself but for all’. Mrs N Lawrence, Assistant Headteacher - Student Voice and DEI Lead

Porchlight Target Smashed! My MGGS

On Wednesday, 6th May, a special assembly for Year 12 was held to celebrate the achievements of the pupils who had taken part in the SleepOut Challenge on a cold and damp Friday evening in March.

The pupils had slept outside in cardboard shelters to support the efforts of #porchlight - a Kent-based charity that supports the homeless. This is the second year that this event has taken place and the pupils did incredibly in topping last year's £3665 to earn £4224.78.

A massive thank you to the pupils who took part, everyone who donated, as well as Mrs Cox, Mr Green and Miss Mulvihill, for also giving up their time to support this event. Mr Byrne - Head of Year 12

Year 7 Explore Ecosystems in Geography! My MGGS

This term, #year7 have been exploring Ecosystems in Geography and they have expertly combined creativity and knowledge. 7N produced awe-inspiring Ecosystem in a box, choosing coral reefs, woodlands and the Arctic. Each one includes biotic (plants and animals) and abiotic elements (water, soil, and climate). The project shows how organisms depend on each other to survive.

Braving the Beacons: Our Gold DofE Teams Shine Through the Storm My MGGS

Our group of 12 Gold D of E students successfully completed their practice Gold expedition over the bank holiday weekend. The teams travelled to the #Brecon Beacons and began their training day on Friday (although it was a very soggy start!). They practiced their navigational skills and then celebrated Taneka’s birthday when they got back to camp! On Saturday, they set off on their expedition on their planned routes. It was tricky navigation at times, but the teams worked well together and put their training into practice. They arrived at the campsite in the pouring rain and had the additional challenge of pitching tents and cooking in the downpour. After a wet and chilly night the teams were up early, ready for the last day. They successfully completed the expedition, just in time before the next round of rain!

A big congratulations to both teams on completing the practice expedition, and we look forward to the qualifying in Snowdonia in June! A thank you as always to Scott and John from Adtrex for their expertise with the expeditions.

Bronze D of E Practice Weekend Incoming! My MGGS

Wishing the best of luck to the 98 Year 9 students heading out for their Bronze DofE practice expedition this weekend on the North Downs.

At #MGGS , the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a staple of our school culture, challenging students to step outside their comfort zones and develop real-world self-reliance. This weekend is the first big test: navigating the North Downs, managing their own gear, and mastering the art of campcraft.

It’s a significant milestone in building the teamwork and resilience that define the MGGS spirit.

Good luck, Year 9 - keep your boots laced, your maps oriented, and try to keep the Trangia burnt-bits to a minimum!

Year 10 Sports Leadership with Brunswick House My MGGS

Year 10 students took on a leadership role during a recent PE lesson, working with pupils from Brunswick House. They demonstrated strong organisation and communication skills while guiding the younger pupils through a range of activities.
The session was well planned, with clear instructions and supportive encouragement provided throughout. The Year 10 leaders showed patience and adaptability, ensuring all pupils were engaged and able to participate confidently.
The activities were enjoyed by everyone involved, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere. This experience not only benefited the Brunswick House pupils but also allowed the Year 10 students to develop their leadership, responsibility and teamwork skills.
