Headteacher’s End of Term Message as the Term Draws to a Close
The end of the Christmas term is always a busy time and this year particularly so.
This term has also marked a historic moment for the school. At the time of writing, we are scheduled to take possession of the keys and occupancy of our new building, The Helen Keen Building at 11am on Friday, 19th December. Thank you to all the staff for the transition to the new building, which will house History, Music, Science and the MGGS WW2 Visitor Centre. Lessons for students in The Helen Keen Building will start from January with rooms numbered E001, E002, etc.
Our annual Carol Service took place as usual at All Saints Church. I am grateful to the Music and Drama departments for organising the music and readings, along with all the other staff involved. It was pleasing to see such a large number of students performing, supported by a large number of parents and family, ensuring the church was packed. The Music Department has over the past year seen an increased number of students engaging in the various clubs, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for music amongst our students.
Our annual Speech Day took place on Monday, when we celebrated the achievements of our previous Year 13 leavers. Katie Bird, a former student and now soprano and actress, was our guest speaker and took part of the evening to perform to the assembled alumni, parents, staff and governors.
Rag Week has also been a success, thanks to the efforts of our Head Students. To date, we have raised £XX for our sister school The Himalayan Milan School in Nepal, the Youth Sports Trust, and Period Poverty UK.
At the end of this term we are saying farewell to Mr Egan, Head of Geography, as he moves overseas, and we wish him all the best for the future.
I hope that you have a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas holiday. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, 6th January 2026.
Miss Deborah Stanley, Headteacher
