STEAM in a Box Workshop – BAE Systems
As part of the STEAM week at MGGS, students in Year 8 had the wonderful opportunity to build a mini bus, program the chip to control the directions and speed and finally race the vehicles against each other.
The workshop was delivered by BAE Systems in Rochester for the third consecutive year over two days. The engineers at BAE Systems provided an insight into careers in STEM – the various roles of engineering within an organisation, the required GCSE subjects and the pathways to get into BAE Systems.
Each class then spent one hour building, programming, customising and racing each other’s buses. The feedback from this workshop has been very positive with 66% of students considering a career in STEM.
