🌊 Year 7 Dives into Sustainable Design with Finisterre! 🧡

Mrs Watts’ current Year 7 enrichment students recently embarked on an exciting, real-world collaboration with Finisterre, a leading UK outdoor brand fiercely dedicated to sustainability. This partnership offered a brilliant opportunity to bridge classroom learning with the innovative world of ethical design.

A Live Session with a Design Leader

We were thrilled to be joined virtually by Finisterre’s Senior Design Leader, Rose Savidge. Although based in Cornwall, Rose generously hosted a live presentation, giving our class a deep dive into the brand’s ethos. The session concluded with a lively Q&A, allowing students to directly pose questions to an industry expert.

Rose highlighted the diverse career paths available in the creative sector, far beyond just design, mentioning opportunities in:

  • Manufacturing
  • Photography
  • Merchandising
  • Product Certification, and more!

Crucially, she shared invaluable insight into sustainable materials and the significance of Finisterre achieving their B Corp certification, reinforcing the importance of business being a force for good.

The Finisterre Wool Design Challenge

The presentation served as the official kick-off for an exciting design competition!

Our students have been challenged to design a wool garment for the brand. Rose Savidge herself will be judging the entries, and the winner will receive a special Finisterre prize!

It’s time for these students to put their thinking caps on and translate their newfound knowledge into innovative, sustainable designs. We can’t wait to see the creativity they unleash!

Stay tuned to the blog for updates and a showcase of the amazing design work they come up with!
