🏆⚽ A Champion’s Insight: Lionesses’ Legacy Inspires MGGS Students ⚽🔥

Earlier today, a group of students had the fantastic opportunity to visit Gads Hill School to hear from Kay Cossington M.B.E., the former Technical Director of the England Lionesses. Kay shared the inspiring history of women’s football in the UK, charting the journey from grassroots beginnings to the professional era we see today, and reflecting on her own work driving forward the success of the Lionesses both on and off the pitch.

A particular highlight was seeing the medals the team won — the gold from the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2022 and the silver from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023 – which Kay proudly brought along. She spoke passionately about her mission to achieve parity between the women’s and men’s game and the legacy she and the Lionesses are striving to leave for future generations.

Kay also spoke about her wider role in enhancing the profile of women’s sport in the UK, championing the need for equal opportunities and working tirelessly to professionalise the women’s game. Her leadership has been instrumental in creating pathways for young female athletes and ensuring that women’s football has the visibility, support and infrastructure it needs to thrive – building on the incredible legacy she has helped to forge.

Students asked insightful questions about life behind the scenes in professional sport, learning more about the dedication, teamwork and hard work required away from the public eye. The event closed with a personal video message from Lioness Lauren James, encouraging our students to stay determined and work hard to reach their own goals — an inspiring way to round off the year.

We hope everyone will be supporting the Lionesses this weekend as they take on Wales in the group stage of the Euros!
