6FX Theatre in Education Performance and Workshop for Year 8

In terms 4 and 5 a group of our sixth form students formed their own Theatre in Education company as part of our sixth form enrichment programme. Theatre in Education (TIE) is theatre created for a particular age group or specific target audience. The aim of TIE is to educate the audience about a topic, issue or debate – while also entertaining them and inspiring them at the same time.

Our group of sixth formers started devising their performance and accompanying workshop at the start of term 4 and delivered both at the end of last term. The performance focused on the different stresses and pressures that young people in year 8 might experience e.g. body image, expectations and not feeling listened to, the workshop then explored these issues further. Both the performance and workshop were a great success. The year 8 audience hot seated characters from the performance, created their own still images and then came up with advice for the individual characters. The sixth formers did a brilliant job at creating a fun, engaging and educational experience for their target audience. Well done to everyone who was involved!
