Sisters of the War : two remarkable true stories of survival and hope in Syria
Author : Rania Abouzeid
Rated : 5/5
A gripping recount of two families caught up in the Syrian uprising of 2011. Each family is on opposite sides of the conflict. Sunni Muslin Ruha and her family are in the wastelands held by the rebels and under constant attack by the Syrian government. Alawite sisters Hanin and Jawa try to live in some sort of normality in the police state of Syria. Living with nightly bombings and playing in the derelict buildings. They witness more than any child or adult could ever imagine. This carefully written account gives readers a firsthand glimpse of what life was like during the devastating attacks. Abouzeid crafts a narrative that is both empathetic and full of detail.
Anyone interested in human interest stories would enjoy this book.
