Discover A Schoogirl’s War and MGGS’ Wartime History
A Schoolgirl’s War, by Mary Smith, tells the remarkable story of MGGS students during the Second World War. Through vivid first-hand accounts, the book shares how schoolgirls coped with air raids, disrupted lessons, and classes held in underground shelters, giving readers a real sense of life at MGGS during this extraordinary period.
The book also features a unique collection of paintings by MGGS art teacher Helen Keen, who captured everyday school life as the war unfolded. Together, the stories and illustrations provide a moving record of the courage, resilience, and spirit of the students who lived through these challenging times.
As we celebrate our history and the recent opening of the new Helen Keen Building, we are also looking forward to launching the MGGS Wartime Tunnels experience, which will offer students, families, and visitors an immersive insight into the school’s past.
