From Fleece to Fabric: Year 7 Masters the Loom
Mrs Watts’ Year 7 Enrichment students have recently stepped back in time to explore one of humanity’s oldest crafts. Trading screens for wooden looms and digital textures for natural sheep’s wool, they’ve been getting hands-on with the tactile world of weaving.
The results have been nothing short of spectacular. We’ve seen a vibrant array of completed weaves, each reflecting the individual personality and flair of its creator.

However, the creativity didn’t stop at the loom. Inspired by the “over-under” rhythm of their work, many students also composed original poetry to capture the spirit of the craft. It turns out that weaving a story with words is very much like weaving a tapestry with wool!
Weaving weaving weaving
The best time when grieving
When your emotions aren’t right
Do something that changes them to bright
Life might swallow you up
Take a drink from my cup
Zig-zagging through the thread
Sit down and think in your head
Where do you want to be
Hear the buzz of the bee
Or do something relaxing
And have a few snacks
Unwrapping the loom
Your heart will bloom
When you’re done
You have won

Weaving is great, don’t you see,
When you get the hang of it weaving is a breeze,
Then you will be weaving with glee,
And when you weave, you will find yourself free,
And if you start now, you will probably agree with me,
Did you know weaving increases mental wellness
So go around, spread awareness
Because if you share this nice thing
People would enjoy it and life would be a dream
