From MGGS to Dr. Young: A Full Circle Journey
We recently received a wonderful message that reminded us exactly why we do what we do. Meet Elle Young, an MGGS alum (2008–2015) who is now making a real-world impact as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Durham University.
Elle’s current work involves travelling across the UK, evaluating Department for Education programmes to improve social mobility for young people in areas like Blackpool and Bradford.
“It’s been eye-opening,” Elle shared. “It made me think, perhaps for the first time with real clarity, about just how many opportunities and experiences I was given during my years at MGGS. I don’t think I fully appreciated the impact of all of that until now.”
🧵 Then & Now
Elle says the influence of teachers has stayed with her throughout her academic journey – from @NewcastleUniversity to her current research @DurhamUniversity.
💡 Giving Back
Elle is proof that the foundations laid here at MGGS can lead to incredible things. She has even kindly offered to return to the school this Spring to speak with our current students about:
- Navigating life after Sixth Form.
- The reality of University life.
- Her vital research on reducing spatial divides in education.
Thank you, Elle, for your kind words and for dedicating your career to ensuring every young person gets the same “open doors” you experienced here. We can’t wait to welcome you back to MGGS soon!
