Inspiring Futures: University of Cambridge Speaker Visits MGGS Years 11-12
MGGS was delighted to welcome Olivia, a guest speaker from the University of Cambridge, to address Year 11 and 12 students this week.
Olivia provided a comprehensive overview of the university application process, detailing the specific differences for ‘Oxbridge’ applications. Most importantly, she offered students a genuine insight into what to expect from life at a top university. Students were particularly amused and enlightened by the shared examples of real student societies, ranging from the more traditional to those focused on a shared love for Bubble Tea and Taylor Swift, proving there is a shared interest for everyone to get involved in.
MGGS is proud of its strong track record in preparing students for their future destinations. Many of our students achieve the necessary entry criteria to successfully apply to and attend the most prestigious universities.
Our commitment to student development is exemplified by our extensive Supercurricula Sixth Form enrichment programme. As Oliva highlighted, successfully applying to Oxbridge requires applicants to evidence engagement in Supercurricular activities, which should constitute 80% of the letter of application. Additionally, we are excited to announce the relaunch of the Medic Society in January. This is a valuable addition to the activities available to students, helping them to demonstrate their strengths in their UCAS applications.
Copies of Olivia’s slides are available in the student classrooms if they wish to review any of the information shared.
Students and parents can also contact Olivia with any questions via her email slo@queens.cam.ac.uk
