MGGS Wartime Tunnels – Volunteers Needed for Primary School Visits
The MGGS Wartime Tunnels Project is preparing to welcome Year 5 primary school groups for educational visits during Terms 5 and 6, and we are currently looking for volunteers to help support these exciting experiences.
Originally built during the Second World War as air-raid shelters, the tunnels are a unique and historically significant part of the Maidstone Grammar School for Girls site. Following extensive redevelopment, the tunnels have been reopened to provide an immersive learning experience where pupils can explore history in the very place it happened.
To help make these visits as engaging and memorable as possible, we are looking for volunteers who would be interested in assisting during the school visits. This could include helping to welcome groups, supporting activities in the Visitor Centre, assisting with and even guiding the tunnel visits, or helping guide pupils during the day.
No specialist historical knowledge is required — just enthusiasm, reliability and an interest in supporting local education and heritage.
If you would like to be involved in this exciting project and help bring history to life for visiting pupils, we would love to hear from you.
Please complete the volunteer form or contact us at dto@mggs.org for more information.
Your support will play an important role in helping us share this unique piece of history with the next generation.
