Product Design Spotlight – Year 13 Showcase Advanced Manufacturing Skills

As we head towards the end of the non-examined assessment (NEA) in Product Design, students are busy manufacturing, seeing their ideas come to life.  Year 13 are tasked with devising a contextual challenge to try and pose a solution to a design problem of their own choice.  Previously, we have had architectural models, medical aids, bespoke sports equipment for users with disabilities and products to help those with mobility issues, to name just a few. Here are just some examples of the projects students have worked on to showcase their skills.

This year, students are developing core manufacturing skills in their NEA, including but not limited to tap and die screw threads on timber, high-quality Japanese wood joints, angled planing, routering, mortise and tenon joints, heat processing polymers, angled dovetail joints, levers and linkages, lighting and electronics – you name it, we make it!
