Product Design Spotlight
Students in Year 8 have been undertaking rapid prototyping to model product designs following their recent design development work. Their theme is to design and make a clock in the style of a selected design movement for use in a domestic situation. Students have each chosen a client to design and make for, which has resulted in a broad range of movements studied from Art Deco to Steampunk, Graffiti to Memphis.
Understanding the key design characteristics of such design movements allows students to see history in the making whilst simultaneously making timeless classics for the future. Here we can see some of the outstanding final outcomes from last year’s Year 8 students, which are being used as inspiration for current Year 8s, whose modelling work shows great promise for excellent products to come!
