Splendid Productions theatre company returned to MGGS on Tuesday October 10th to perform their creative adaptation of the 1836 comedy ‘The Government Inspector’ by Ukranian playwright Nickolai Gogol. The play is a satirical prod at power, privilege, corruption and classism in a small provincial town whose public servants – including the untrustworthy Mayor – are told that they are to be assessed by an anonymous official: The Government Inspector. But who is he?

Ninety MGGS students from years 9-13 watched as the skillful cast of three performers switched quickly between a number of different roles. The students were blown away by their energy and precision as they populated “an entire town of panicking officials, dismayed citizens and feckless fantasists…” We then had a Q&A session with Cordelia Stevenson, Holly Bernice and Brooke Camilleri Agius. Our students asked some really interesting questions ranging from “How did you get into theatre” to “Do you find it challenging to combine politics with the lighter moments in the story?”

Thank you to everyone who took part!
